If anybody else done these things to me I've done to myself, I'm pretty sure it'd be a short day in a courtroom then 'the chair' you can't nail a man to a cross anymore pisses all the wrong people off anymore unless you're out in Hollywood, of course cause nobody out there...seems to care pray for my daughters and your sons don't ask where they've been don't tell em what you've done just imagine you and i, we are the only ones don't go there I've been to California and the Georgia coast slept with the Devil and the Holy Ghost can't remember which one I enjoyed the most, anymore Manhattan or Reno, a Deadwood casino Alabama, Montana, all the places that we go it's the same in New Orleans as it is out in Portland every life is a short one that's for sure pray for my daughters and your sons don't ask where they've been don't tell em what you've done just imagine you and i, we are the only ones don't go there I got lost in the Dakota's wound up here in the Heartland wise, not to imply that I was smart man but all I have is myself to fear and the holes in your heart are closer than they appear it don't take no water to make a tumbleweed grow so don't bother diggin' because the answer's still no just go wherever the wind wants to blow and pray to your God that you don't end up back here pray for my daughters and your sons don't ask where they've been don't tell em what you've done just imagine you and i, we are the only ones don't go there pray for my daughters and your sons don't ask where they've been don't tell em what you've done just imagine you and i, we are the only ones dyin' out here in this desert sun just imagine you and i, we are the only ones don't go there jefferson fox - 2010

Everybody wants to go to Heaven Even the folks who swear it don't exist The hardest part about life is searching for excuses For desire, in lieu of death's kiss And I will be my brother's keeper Because I want his possessions for myself He should no better than to leave her alone Or turn his back on me at the well Everybody wants to go to Heaven But the Church shares the State's arrogance So we ridicule the Believers to prop ourselves up And pray for grace through our intelligence And I will be my brother's keeper Because I want his woman for myself And the knife twists in deeper As we stumble down the stony road to Hell And I will be my brother's keeper Because I want his woman for myself The knife twists in a little deeper As I stumble down the stony road to Hell As I stumble down the stony road to Hell -jefferson fox 2010

When the killing is over and the war comes to an end We'll find a reason to start one up again Ya can't change that with love or money or a folk song, friend Cause it's the oldest and our favorite sin Cause every human-being wants what all the other ones they've got and if we can't have our own we'll just take yours Since way back at the beginning of time war has been fought over food and wine women, oil, land, money, everything that shines And we always have a good excuse, religion, our political views, 'bringin our freedom to you, whether or not you mind, Every human-being wants what all the other ones they've got and if we can't have our own we'll just take yours Being content, that's the cure but it'll never, ever endure cause every generation, they just want more la-dee-da-da-da la-da-da-da.... you put your money in and your morals out take the company car scream and you shout make fun of your friends for their failure that's what it's about la-dee-da-da-da la-da-da-da.... If you think that guy you voted for is immune to greed you're a fool for sure cause amassing a fortune and honesty just don't mix It's the age old game of bait and switch appeal to the poor to get elected and then sell your vote to the elite makes you rich Cause every human-being wants what all the other ones they've got and if we can't have our own we'll just take yours Being content, that's the cure but it'll never, ever endure cause every generation, every state and nation, every politician, every singer/songwriter, folk musician, every suicide-bomber and family physician, ever out-of-work actress in a compromising position everybody you know they all want more. (and i do too). jefferson fox - 2010

You Don't 03:20
You and I grew up in different gardens digested different soil we came from different tendings we have different toils I speak in rhyme and you never say you never say anything I drop you hooks and lines wait for a bell to ring and just so you know they probably won't just so, just so you know just so you know, you don't I gave you a key so you could open me up and see you lost in on a carnival parking lot wandered around and around that littered ground you searched for days until you walked out in front of a new train of thought but you figured me out you know exactly what I am about you predict my every move but i don't...so you lose and just so you know I probably won't just so, just so you know just so you know...you don't you don't know I'm praying that something happens I turn into Tracy Chapman find myself a fast car and i leave but nothin ever changes, you and i are still strangers and we don't have our keys and just so you know we probably won't just so, just so you know just so you know (since you know me so well) just so you know (why don't you show me) just so you know you don't. jefferson fox - 2010

Paperback 03:30
I hope when i go that i go slow cause i really do, i i wanna know what it's like to die even if it's just for a ...little while maybe i'll say something smart maybe some passerby will take it to heart who knows, maybe they'll write a paperback about my life maybe i'll save a baby from a fire shake the presidents hand and call him a liar maybe i'll figure out what our dreams are all about maybe i'll find a wormhole to the other side maybe it's right there in your eyes in your eyes i hope when i go that i go slow cause i really do, i... i wanna know what it's like to see this life drowning in a bright, white, light. jefferson fox - 2010

Soul for sale, I mean a man needs his money, nothin else to offer but some worn out love, Forgotten faith and a few a few tall tales handrwritten sign says "soul for sale", uh huh Sold all the neighbors off for black-market parts Limbs and livers, broken hearts Barely made enough dough to throw his own bail handwritten sign says "soul for sale" ...uh huh So let's do somethin new cause I'm tired of trying to be who you think I oughtta be, there's a part of me dyin' to get out but I don't think that he's Gonna say anything you wanted to hear your worst nightmare or a little bitty fear in the back of your mind there's a half-a-dozen lines in here about you so what you gonna do you run for the door " i can't take no more" " what's that boy writin' rap tunes for" Cause he's tired, uninspired, tryin to light a little fire hopin there's somebody there to catch him when he falls from the wire my desire is just like yours everybody thinks theirs is different of course but the facts... the facts are simple you're born then you're dead and what happens in the middle is the matter at hand are you doin' what you can for anybody other than yourself? it's doubtful... that's a mouthful how bout, how bout your Soul for sale, comes with a dancin monkey started life out with nothin at all and i still got most of it and you seem to think that's funny handwritten sign says "Soul For Sale" uh huh -jefferson fox (2010)

My Grandfather and a few of his friends gather round as the work day ends it's always the same just small-talk and advice the same old stories but it's always nice The one about the lake flood in I think: 45' 'A dog on a hotwire' 'land they couldn't buy' 'Miles Allison and the dynamite' Grandpa 'd tell that one and laugh till he cried So when I'm gone away Would you do this for me Promise me you'll tell My ghost stories 'The one about the big fish that Emmett lost' cigar burned the line in two... showing it off How great Grandpa and I ended up with the same name It's a good story, A little long but anyway A milk-cow that got traded for a hound How Grandpa 'd pet the cat if no one was around 'When Pee-Wee Ward opened the flood-gate to the St. Francis' The fisherman and tourists all nearly drowned So when I'm gone away Would you do this for me Promise me you'll tell My ghost stories So please listen close to the Old Ghosts They've still got a lot lot to say And it won't be long You and I'll become I promise one day We'll be Ghost Stories -jefferson fox- 2008
